Social work as a human rights profession

Social work as a human rights profession

The continuing education Master of Social Work - Social Work as a Human Rights Profession (MRMA) qualifies students for the implementation of human rights issues in practice, teaching and research. The degree programme is a cooperation between the Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin (ASH), the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB), the Katholische Hochschule für Sozialwesen Berlin (KHSB) and the German Institute for Human Rights Berlin.

The degree programme will provide you with the skills to deal with the transnationalisation of social problems. You will be able to contribute to the anchoring of human rights in teaching, in domestic and/or foreign practical projects and in your own organisation. The degree is obtained through a part-time, four-semester programme followed by a Master's thesis.

Three good reasons to study Master of Social Work:

The call from international social work circles and the UN to consider human rights as a central category of theory, values and practice

The increasing importance of the third sector as a field of cooperation between citizens, non-profit organisations and business and state organisations

The transnationalisation of social problems in the course of economic globalisation and the increasing importance of human rights work

Your human rights are important to me because ...
"The programme imparts extensive knowledge about human rights and the instruments that protect them. It is made tangible that these legitimate claims of each individual are the benchmark for social work."
Kerstin Schulze
Dipl.-Sozialarbeiterin/-Sozialpädagogin (FH), Master of Social Work
"With its versatility, the degree programme inspired, enthused and often challenged me. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, it answered many of my unanswered questions - both in practical work and in theory."
Ingo Stamm

"For me, the strength of the training lies in the fact that it makes connections clear, formulates requirements for social work and removes thematic blinkers."
Susanne Hampe
Dipl. Sozialarbeiterin
