Further education programme in practical religious education

Religion gives food for thought - The continuing education programme teaches theological principles and demonstrates methodological and didactic design options for religious education in schools.

Participants reflect on, deepen and update their own approach to religious questions through this programme.

What makes the degree programme special

You find religion and faith important and would like to contribute to educating pupils with a broad horizon at school by ..

  • talking to children and young people about the existential questions of life and encouraging them to formulate their own answers and find orientation in our pluralistic world from the Christian faith,
  • providing information about the content of religions and entering into dialogue with pupils about their existential relevance,

  • Enable pupils to meet people of other religions with tolerance and enter into dialogue with them on questions of faith,
  • Enable pupils to make a personal decision with regard to religion and faith,
  • especially as a class teacher at a Catholic school, familiarise your pupils with forms of lived faith in the annual cycle.

Notes on the study structure
  • The continuing education programme is a part-time programme. It has a modular structure and comprises a standard period of study of 4 semesters with a total of 90 credits.
  • In the 4th semester, the supervised teaching practice takes place as part of the teaching obligation in the subject of religion, to the extent of two teaching hours per week in a learning group at your school.

  • The continuing education programme takes place in cooperation with the archbishoprics of Berlin and Hamburg.
  • 7 block weeks take place alternately in Berlin (at the KHSB) and Hamburg (Nütschau Monastery).
  • In addition, there are approx. 12 individual study days, which take place in parallel in Berlin and Hamburg, as well as various e-learning modules.
Target group
  • Teachers with a 2nd state examination for the teaching profession at integrated secondary schools and grammar schools,
  • Teachers with a 2nd state examination for the teaching profession at primary schools (Master's degree for the teaching profession at primary schools),
  • Teachers with an elective subject (1st and 2nd state examination),
  • Teachers with subject-specific training in 2 subjects (1st and 2nd state examinations) at special educational support centres, at vocational schools,
  • Teachers according to section 2 and section 5 of the pay scale,
  • Teachers as so-called lateral entrants / lateral entrants in permanent employment.

Expertise

You will acquire in-depth knowledge and expand your skills in the continuing education programme:

  • Theological and religious education fundamentals in the four subject groups: biblical, systematic, historical and practical theology,
  • academic and didactic skills for initiating, implementing and reflecting on learning and educational processes in the subject of Catholic religion,
  • Strengthening role and self-reflection skills with a view to a future career as a religion teacher.
